Roommates - Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On - 35 by AsheRhyder Roommates - Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On - 35 by AsheRhyder
Because let's face it: if the wind is strong enough to be blowing around shards of glass, the rope is not going to be much help.

I still cannot help but look at Javert and picture him going, "Miss, please stay back behind the yellow line..."

Can anyone else hear the ticking of the Xanatos Speed Chess?

Jareth and Sarah belong to Henson, Lucas, Bowie and Connelly.
Erik belongs to Leroux and Webber.
Norrington belongs to Disney, Bruckheimer, and Davenport.
Javert belongs to Hugo, Boublil, Schonberg, and Kretzmer.
Jadis belongs to Lewis.
Erlkönig is a mythological character and belongs to everyone and no one.

Jadis never understood the meaning and power of love and friendship and that's what will take her down. Genius.

Ah. It's so good to know that, at least in this universe, Jareth has Erik, Javert, and Norrington to rely upon. The boys would make a pretty awesome police team/investigator force. Heck, Javert's already an inspector, so all the more easy for Sherlock to show off his intellect and fling witty/hurtful insults at them. Yes, I'm a Sherlock fan.

Come on, James is a hero. He can do this. I believe in him. Sadly, his sword isn't cold iron, so it won't do much, but I believe in him.

Hmm...the Erlkönig scored a direct hit on Jadis, I believe. Defeated by children, indeed...though, in her defense, the children had the help of a freakin' huge talking lion. Scary, no?

Speaking of scary...ohai there, Jareth, what have YOU been up to? ...And is that fire?

I'm very much enjoying the way you're drawing Jadis...

Also, ouch, BURN. Good one, Erlkonig. Looks like you ain't so bad after all...

Okay, so to get this straight: Mom and Dad are essentially in a battle over Jareth's- for lack of a better term- soul, whilst he is asleep and dreaming. Meanwhile, the other three Outcasts of Apartment in the Sky are trying to save him, along with Sarah's help. They thought that they'd won, but Jadis just proved that she cheats. Got it. Next page...

Erlkonig becomes more and more awesome the more we see of him. <3 I kind of want to hug him though, with his whole "we are too old to be anything else"; unlike Jadis, he knows what he is missing. :( And it seems like he really is a good dad, trying to give his son what he can never have.

Jadis, on the other hand, is just a royal bitch.

Yeah. He is definitely Jareth's better parent.

But think about this: He probably didn't had much (or at least direct) contact with his son after the divorce and from what Jadis says he already gave these weird ideas (like love) to Jareth before the they split up. How long did he planned this again?! :o

Well, he *is* an old school Fae; this sort of scheming kind of comes with the territory.

I think that this probably traces back to the argument that Jadis and Erlkonig were having in "Forsaken", so this has definitely been a long time coming. By denying him access to Jareth, Jadis probably messed up whatever his original plan was. I'm guessing that the recent events are a somewhat desperate last ditch effort on his part to try to salvage the situation, rather than the culmination of a long drawn-out plan.

What I really want to know is why Jadis is so dead set on messing up Erlkonig's plans. Although, now that I think about it, maybe she is trying to help her son too, in her own messed up way. Rereading this page, it seems that she thinks that Erlkonig has made Jareth weak. Could it be that she is trying to make Jareth what she thinks he needs to be in order to survive? Could she actually be doing what she thinks is best for her son (however mistaken she might be)?

...

I think I need to think on this some more. I... I might actually be starting to have some sympathy for Jadis. :hmm: I am uncertain how to feel about this.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Kid!Jareth Adult!Sarah meeting in the Kid!Jareth arc weren't accidental but Mr. King's way to ensure that his ideals at least partially stick when he noticed that he won't win the "custody battle".
He seems good enough in Xanatos Speed Chess for it and Jareth turned out a lot like he wanted (for the great dismay of Jadis).

Accusing the other of making Jareth weak seems to be a two player game. The Erlkönig also did this in his first appearance, even if the runes make it a bit harder to notice.

Parents: They ALWAYS think they know what's best for their children. :/

And it's always the worst for a kid when they're caught between waring parents. Poor Jareth.

I have personal experiences about this. Even if my family isn't this bad (my mom is definitely better, my dad... I'm not sure: [link] ) or at least not magic. :/

Me too, unfortunately. Pretty sure my dad's a sociopath too - he likes to stage accidents like yours, and we are also pretty sure he was poisoning my mom, but we don't have any hard proof. He's done enough horrible things that we do know about that I wouldn't put it past him though. My mom's pretty messed up too, both from her abusive childhood and from living with my dad for the last 25 years. She's probably the better parent since she's pretty normal and helpful most of the time, but every now and then she goes completely mental and tries to kill herself (and make it look like my dad did it) or hurt the people around her (usually just verbally, but she can be pretty vicious). They're both edging toward divorce right now (and have been for the last decade or so), but both are afraid the other will go psycho if they make the first move. It's a pretty bad situation all around.

I'm just glad I'm away at college and not in the middle of that anymore. But I think the reason I've started to gain a little sympathy for Jadis is that she reminds me a little of my mom when she's in one of her crazy moments (minus the suicide threats). Only Jadis is like that all the time. I hate to think about what poor Jareth had to go through as a kid. :(

My mother booted out my dad fairly fast (a strong woman, at least she has this in common with Jadis) I was 7 or so. But they had a divorce from hell lasting more than 10 years and I was in the middle of it... and my mom believes in brutal honesty.

How they got together is a mystery, but probably: My dad thought that if he can get a successful woman that will somehow strengthen his status and show how manly he is (this was his second marriage, but the only woman if not only being he ever loved was my grandmother)... but forgot that successful probably means: capable / independent / manipulative / ruthless or any combination of these (my mom was the first two with some shades (as brutal honesty with perfect timing) of the third). My mom wanted a child and felt that she is running out of time.
