Roommates: Kings War 58 by AsheRhyder Roommates: Kings War 58 by AsheRhyder
{Totally not referencing Dr. Who, honest as the Doctor: He looks tired, don't you think?}

*halo*

Recognizable parts of the Labyrinth belong to Henson, Froud, and Lucas.
Norrington belongs to Disney, Bruckheimer, and Davenport.
Socks...

??? is ??? (some parts reference TV Tropes)

I don't like that that thing is speaking out of sacrifice.
That's just creepy-ominous.

That last panel- if Story says it, how can it not be true?
This is looking darker and darker...

Wow! The story man. It's so awesome because this comic leans pretty heavily on the fourth wall at times, but they don't let it bother them too much. But then something happens to remind them that the story is their lives. The story is everything. It's what makes them who they are. And the fact that you've managed to convey that in drawings is incredible.

Check page 310. Especially the first panel background. You can also read the text... Shakespeare is bad news, and James should really be more careful what he says, who knows who might be listening. :meow:

"...That I would scorn to change my state with kings."
I never would have... how long has Ashe been dangling these things in front of us? I don't know if I should be delighted (oh, now I get it! clever!) or FURIOUS.

Also, Shakespeare is- I love it every time Shakespeare's work makes its way in here. It does seem to be attached to Very Serious Drama, but that's only natural. What I find in Shakespeare is pure, concentrated passion, albeit sculpted and refined into words of force and illustration. And yes, there are the dirty jokes besides, but that's the thing, it's human. It's bad and good, it curses and it restores. I hope sometime perhaps it'll find its way into a place not of uncertainty or foreboding but of hope and healing, here as it has in my life. That would delight me so.

At least since before the Dark!Jareth arc (the page #150 titled Story) but who knew (s)he meant the Story being Living Words this literally. :XD:

So, I really, really love 'He will spend every drop of his heart's blood in a futile attempt to be [a hero]. That is his story' as a general summation of James's character. You've cut right to the heart of him in a really beautiful, satisfying way. Because that is *exactly it*. Also, the... Story itself, whatever that character is= super cool.

Yes, he was also there when Toby cut Jareth with the sword. I saw him and imeadiately started saying "No." over and over. I don't like that he's here and we still don't know who or what he is.

See, I thought we saw him even earlier than that. Wasn't he at the masquerade party the guys went to while they were vacationing? And then they came back and jinxed it because they were like "Oh look, we went on vacation without anything horrible happening?"? I could have sworn this guy was in the crowd.Submit Comment

Yes, he was there too. I was thinking that maybe he had some influence over Toby. I think he was scoping them out during the masquerade. Learning their weaknesses and stuff.

Just reading some of the words that this guy is made up of are incredibly creepy. And what he says about James is even worse, especially considering I disagree with some of it so far. I think a hero is something that's difficult to define until after the fact and James Norrington is still an individual who did the right things and enabled some pretty key events to unfold.

Socks is going to be sacrificed in order for the kingdom to pull together, isn't he? He becomes a hero by dying for others and being a martyr.

Exousia kai Dunamis Kuriotes - Ephesians 1 - verse 1 bible. <--- guessing that's some personification of the phases from the bible.

the beginning is the word so it shall be.

The epitaph.

well im running out of reasonable guesses.

OMFG. This... this is the best idea you have ever had. A "man" made out of words. Basically, I am guessing, The Call in some human form. Made out of words. The story itself.

This would never show well in a written story. This is pure visual bliss.

And I am so loving where this is going.

His far leg might be "for those you" making it "what would you do for those you", probably what would you do for those you care about...which brings us back to the "sacrifice" theme...

I have no word for it, but I think it is a sort of representation of inevitability. Characters take a life of their own, often times leaving the writer having to follow the story they tell rather than create it. Not exactly a representation of destiny, but it definitely tells what a character is to be no matter what...

By the looks of it, Socks may very well be "meant" to become a sort of foil for James... or someone.

Chills up and down my spine, the power behind those last couple panels is enormous. I will never get sick of telling you how much of a master storyteller you are; your stories are never predictable and the ease with which the perfect words come to you is amazing. That last panel is a perfect example of your use of art and word to craft a fantastic ride and I love it.

On another less serious note, Socks just jumped a few rungs on my 'favorite character ladder'. I really enjoy when you work him into the story.
