Roommates 323 - Scapegoat by AsheRhyder Roommates 323 - Scapegoat by AsheRhyder
In which Office Hours are not observed,

In which Erik puts his foot in it. Deep.

For those of you who haven't seen Rise of the Guardians, Jack Frost spent about 300 years invisible and intangible to human beings. (And is not, upon recollection, the only incarnation to be incapable of interacting with them, so double the effect of that...)

Erik belongs to Leroux and Webber.
Jack Frost belongs to Joyce, Ramsey, Steinberg, Berstein, Abaire, and Pine.

This just tipped the scales into utter fangirl madness for me.
If I had your address I'd like stalk you and send you bunches of flowers periodically for doing this.

Why is Jack Frost even a student?
I think Erik now wants to slap/ Punjab himself.

You know, the movie was confusing about that.  Most of it took place in modern day, yet they say Jack has been alone for 300 years, meaning since approx. the 1700's.  But when it shows him in that village, the village itself, the clothing, and the people all appear more Dark/Middle Ages, roughly perhaps 1100-1300's.  Was I the only confused by this?
Schattenblum Featured By Owner Mar 15, 2014
I think the village is actually supposed to be from the 1700s too, but it was either a very rural and poverty-stricken place (presumabely a new, struggling colonial village), or the animators got a little lazy and simply used the same design as the Dark Ages village that Pitch later brings up. Or both.
JarethsSlave Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2014
Either way, I found it frustrating.  I could see the colonial bit, since Jack has an American accent, except the village looked more Dark Ages than Colonial America.  As for the poverty, maybe, but Jack and his sister had ice skates.  I have a hard time buying people in poverty stricken villages in that time period affording proper ice skates.  Animators!  Y U no do proper research?!

There's a similar mess-up in 'Brave'... 10th Century architecture, 16th Century fashion and supposedly the Vikings and Romans having all invaded simultaneously within the Lords' sons' lifetimes. :/

*facepalm*  My English history is much better than my Gaelic history.  Hollywood doesn't seem to get that history was exciting enough without getting everything wrong.

Oh, I love it! They hurt my heart, but in a good way! It feels like they could have the potential to have a similar relationship like Jareth and James.

Okay, I was going to wait until I went through all twelve of the comics that I missed but right now, really want to say something. I think they picked a pretty cute person to do Erik in this sequel thing or whatever is going on with Phantom of the Opera. And the look of Erik's face is priceless.

I believe that in the books ROTG's based on he's supposed to be 14, after Joyce's own brother, but Dreamworks made him eighteen for ROTG.
AsheRhyder Featured By Owner Jun 6, 2013  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
(I thought he was 18... I thought I heard it somewhere that Dreamworks said he was 18 when... yeah. But I don't have a source to cite.)

Just want to say that I love Jack's expression in the last panel. And Jack. And Erik. And this comic. Much love all around.
Indigo-Night-Wisp Featured By Owner Jun 2, 2013
Whoa. Just... just whoa.

I mean, on the one hand, he looks just like a kid, acts just like a kid, and for all intents and purposes, is just a kid.

On the other...

I can see Jack and Erik having deep, heartfelt, soulful conversations together. :) They'll drink hot cocoa late at night and try to relate to each other in some way that doesn't involve loneliness.

And Jareth will be like, "Why don't you ever LEAVE?" :)

Step 1. Open mouth as wide as possible.
Step 2. Contort body to bring foot close to mouth.
Step 3. Insert foot in mouth - possibly as far in as you knee.

I really need to go see the guardians at some point. I've been meaning too. It's probably out of theaters by now.

0.0 You are brilliant!!!! Jack and Erik have a lot more in common than most people would think!!! BRILLIANT I CANT WAIT FOR MORE!!!!!!!!!! If you cant tell I love Jack Frost :)
stargazer898 Featured By Owner Jun 1, 2013
I love how not only does Erik inadvertently give Jack a pointer by bringing up the importance of loneliness and longing for his role, but also that Jack is the only person so far to even bother asking one of the characters from the original their opinion on something involving the production. It makes it seem like Jack cares about how it'll affect Erik. Especially since his line about how though he's not into music the show will seem like fun, reminded me of an incident between me and my brother where he purposely joined the same sports team as me so that he could mess with my head and create excess amounts of chaos. So I'm definitely eager to see how the two continue interacting (or not interacting) with each other.

Also, where would Jack fit in on the magical family tree? Would he be a close enough relation to have established any sort of connection with other characters that we've seen in comic that aren't from Rise of the Guardians?
