Roommates 296 - Theory of Relativity by AsheRhyder Roommates 296 - Theory of Relativity by AsheRhyder
In which we return to Questions left Unanswered, or in this case, Unasked;

OR

In which something else must be explained.

I rather believe the magical community holds less significance with the messy organics of relations, given that in almost any given system, half of them are shape-shifters, mpreg, or otherwise unusual conceptions. Certainly, some of them are... more carnally inclined than others (*coughJadisandDarkness*), but this, at least, should help explain how and why various members of the magical community refer to each other as "aunt", "cousin", and so forth.

One can hope.

Jareth belongs to Henson, Lucas, and Bowie.

one of things i enjoy most about your comics (besides the genius original idea and the general hilarity) is the clothing. i love how youve given jareth an original outfit that still fits with his character--fabulous and a little bit badass.

Well, my art style adapts on a regular basis, so it could be hard to tell. What in particular looks different?

I just read an old Chinese story about a goblin king who could only be killed by having his hair cut. One of his wives beheaded him with his own hair (ew!). That might explain a lot about Jareth's 'do!

I LOVE this page. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

For one thing: Jareth. Full body-length.

For another: Relativity Theory of Magical Genetics. (Of great interest to me, and very much a favorite topic of mine.)

For a third: Jareth. (Because it bears repeating.)

I figured it was less about actual relations and more about a culture where family-as-community like in Japanese and Chinese, where grandmother and grandfather are applied to any older people as a sign of respect.

I wad looking at some older comics then came back to this and noticed how much your work has changed. my favorite is still the one where James and Javert bring the fruit basket only to hear the unhappy organ and Erik cursing Jareth and deciding to come back later. still brings tears of laughter to my eyes

Part of that is, undoubtedly, a matter of how much time the comics took then versus now; I'm pretty sure that one was whipped out in about an hour, two tops, start to finish, whereas now they take several weeks to finish due to free time not usually coming in clusters.
The other part is, thankfully, some growth in skill (I'd be a bit alarmed if there wasn't any, after all this time). I'm glad it's a visible change, but I'm even more glad that you're still enjoying it.

I will always love this comic. I got the go ahead from pika to write a fanfic for gnd and I hope to do it justice. I'm placing maybe about 3 or 4 of my ocs into gnd world and at least 2 of them have magical stalkers. Puck will show up quite a bit in it. 2 of them were originally from the real world, one became a princess the other a witch.so it will prove rather interesting

Hmmmmmmmm.

That is *fascinating* and intriguing and plotteriffic.

I must say, as far as my own sense of the character goes - and it does differ from yours somewhat - that, like another commenter mentioned, I'd judge Air is missing there... what with his avian alt-form and I think one school of Illusion magics has some faint likeness to RL physics of visual perception and is Air-based (the other would indeed be Water). I think that is one of the interesting fault-lines to the character, that he is a rare pairing of Earth (the Underground) and Air as primary elements, which are usually antagonistic, and that might have something to do with the eyes. Jadis would get Water and Air (and Darkness just as obviously, Fire and Earth) - I don't know about the Erlking, but then I've always fudged my own canon on Jareth's paternity.
(Have you read any of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera books? Besides them being great action-packed adventures like Dresden, his world has Elemental magic and besides the very showy and obvious offensive uses, a lot of them branch off into subtler magics - Water gives you mind-reading and healing, Fire can fan tempers and courage, and I think Earth is the key to manipulating lust...)
Dream/Illusion and Space-Time, certainly.
Without the fanon connection to the deadly/harbinger Erlking, however, I'd've judged associating Jareth to Death as antinomic to his PG villain/immortal nature, mind you...
And I know the Winter connection comes from Jadis, and certainly he has a fondness for blacks and blue, but I make him an Autumn, the movie palette always seems gold and russet and brown to me.

Fun fun fun. I'm still pondering this stuff.

I actually ran out of room to do a full analysis of Jareth's background on the page; properly, I think I'd need a three-dimensional model, because some of them are rather distant traits. Dreams are related to Sleep, which is tied to Death, but Death isn't as much one of Jareth's unless you're taking him as a tie in to the various children-stealing stories, which seem like a lot of them are stand-ins for Death unless someone gets the child back in the end.

Trying to get the connections between the parts I did use did not turn out as easily as I had hoped. Definitely may try a full analysis someday, with proper distances between subject and relation...

Have yet to read the Codex Alera books; I never seem to get through the list of Things To Read.

It would be so complicated as you got more and more into it, though. You'd need several more dimensions to put all the ties.

You're lucky if just "OW". See-through CJ-balls tend to be rather heavy and destructive... OK. Jareth's are made of magic but still. [link] Link of what such a ball can do to a laptop. :meow:

This is actually separate from the Wild Hunt arc, which ended with the hair ruffling. Though usually it *is* Jareth's fault.
