Roommates 209 - Younger by AsheRhyder Roommates 209 - Younger by AsheRhyder
In which the artist caught the 25th anniversary of Phantom,

or

In which Jareth is less than happy about time passing in a linear fashion rather than as a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff. Ding.

Did anyone else ever notice how the guys playing the Phantom have been getting younger and younger?

Erik belongs to Leroux and Webber.
Jareth belongs to Henson, Lucas, and Bowie.
Quote regarding time goes to the Dr. Who people.

Funny old world, isn't it? I think they've also played Valjean and Javert opposite of each other, as well.

Huh really I'll have to look that up ... Yep Fraser Was Javert and Karimloo was Valjean. I wonder how those two fell about this? Perticularly as Javert good freinds with Eric.

On a different topic: Jareth's face in final panel: the reason I read/watch manga/anime. That face. I just LOVE it when they make that face. And relax Jareth. David promised he would never get old and he's God so he can totes do that. Oh yeah, listening to that later. Or singing it now. . . There's never gonna be enough bullets! Never gonna be enough sex! Never, ever gonna get old! (Um bullets David? Cause you aren't John Lennon. . . Ironic David Bowie's life plot twist: Fate goes: Ha! You've been freaking out about assassination since old John got killed. Plot twist! I give you heart attack and almost dying on stage! Fans: *Complete shock face of horror* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad he lived. I don't fancy offing myself from grief, but yeah. Bowie: 1, Fate: 0, Cocaine abuse: 1. Don't do drugs kids.)

Fortunately, the manga is now complete, so if you do read it, you won't have to wait two years from start to finish. The down time really creates a drag on the narrative.

*TotalevilmonsterfaceofutterandcompleteDOOM* Who DARES suggests Tom Felton play my arch deity?!?! HAVE AT THEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAVID BOWIE'S PICTURE IS NEXT TO THE WORDS HOT, SEXY, ATTRACTIVE, FUCK-WORTHY, AND EVERY SYNONYM IN ANY LANGUAGE IN EXISTENCE AND IN EVERY DICTIONARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*mind explodes at the thought that any human being outside my siblings-and conservative mother-could even POSSIBLY find him REMOTELY anything other than sheer, male perfection* Let me put it this way. I am nearly 26. The man is a little over forty years older than me at 66 this January 8th. (F@#$ off Elvis, you've been replaced.) And I would leap, no. Commit murder, for the chance to do many horrible, unspeakable, wonderful things to and with him. I know straight men, straight as arrows, who said in no uncertain terms, and I quote: :Uh, yeah, if David wanted me. . . yeah I'd totally just bend over and take it cause he's a god." He married the world's hottest supermodel. (And their daughter is so cute I die whenever I see pictures of her!) The man can have *literally* anyone, of any gender, of any orientation, solely because he is David F@#$ing Bowie. Or as I like to call him, my Lord and Master, God, etc. The reason Jareth's insane sex appeal is so off the charts? Totally because he's basically a straight version of Ziggy Stardust. (I will deny this if He ever asks if I said it but yeah.) Look up Ziggy Stardust. It's a miracle befitting the entire book of Exodus that the man did not catch every single STD ever heard of and die. (Still scratching my head on that one.) Ziggy invented sex being nearly what it is today. In fact, I'm pretty sure he invented sex. I would not be surprised. At the least he invented all the fun ways in which it is done today. I'm pretty sure Tom Felton doesn't have the. . . shall we say, experience necessary to accurately portray the Goblin King. And he's too young. I mean, Felton could pass for a teen if he wanted. And the whole Jareth being much to old for Sarah and all the legal problems with this, is an inappropriate but hilarious part of Laby fandom. Only the original Jareth can appropriately choose an heir. I guarantee you Laby fans would gleefully murder anyone who attempted to portray God, I mean Jareth, without Bowie's Blessing.

Sorry for the rant. But I *literally* worship David Bowie. If the Christian God is real I am going to Hell for blasphemy, idolatry, and soooo many other offenses. My apartment/iPod/wardrobe is a shrine to him. For the sake of my sanity, please post: Bowie Cult Members DO NOT READ the next time you feel the need to discuss him being less than the epitome of male perfection, and/or Tom Bloody Felton as the next Jareth. I think I nearly had a heart attack. I need to lie down now. . .

Dunno. I think a remake would be interesting to watch, but would probably fail miserably at holding up to the original. Still, I wonder who would be cast as the leads?

:giggle: That's funny. I got the 25th anniversary production DVD for my last birthday. I love getting POTO related things, especially on my birthday. Ramin is my favorite Broadway/London Broadway Phantom for POTO; Ben Lewis is my favorite for LND, which I consider a whole separate storyline as it has discontinuities with the original plot. And of course, Charles Dance and Gerard Butler are my fav' movie Phantoms.

But yeah why does Erik keep getting younger and younger in adaptations? The last thing we need is a Phantom teenager. :) I mean, the whole point is that he is older and ugly - am I right?

Ugly, at least. Older usually goes in towards giving him the experience necessary to do all the amazing things he does, from what I've seen.

I actually saw that broadcasted on T.V. in March!! I remember the night so well. I was just reading the sunday papers in the Arts section. The Phantom's (Ramin Karimloo's) picture was on the front. Naturally, I was interested, so I read the article. Said it was going to be broadcasted live on Sunday, March (?) (I forgot the date) at 7:00. With a jolt, I realized that the day was today. I looked at the clock, and it was almost 7:00!! I sprinted into the other room :sprint: with the other T.V., flipped through the channels fast as I could, and watched it with happiness. This is me watching it: :jawdrop: :woohoo: :squee: :faint:  LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!

In my personal oppinion, Bowie isn't even that good-looking. If they did a remake, I think Tom Felton would be perfect. And it would satisfy Jareth's need to be portrayed as 'younger than the Phantom'.

...you know...Javert going to get a makeover soon as well...i think Hugh Jackman (...yummy...) is playing him in the film coming out this christmas...so...he may wind up staying the same age...i have no idea how old Quast is...but he'll be a hell of a lot shorter...just a thought...

Quast is a fair bit older... but yeah, the height jokes are about to roll in: Crowe is only an inch taller than Bowie, and Jackman is the same height as Butler and Davenport.

In the upcoming movie, Jackman is playing Valjean - he's actually 6'2, which is exactly a foot taller than Wolverine was supposed to be (at least, back in the '90's...)

Crowe is playing Javert, and clocks in at 5'11.

The original designs for Valjean and Javert were taken from the cast of the 10th anniversary concert, where Valjean was played by Colm Wilkinson (5'10) and Philip Quast (6'3.)

Jackman is the same height as Gerard Butler. Fun times.
