With the 'interesting wall' comment on 30 I was thinking Seurat. However I had an idea a while back involving a scrapbook:
Out of pure meta-world curiosity, (and because he finds it peculiar and amusing that anyone would make a musical about him,) Jean has collected a bunch of pictures of people who have played himself and Javert over the years. Javert stumbles across this collection and finds it... odd.
Later he arrives at Jean's flat with photographic evidence of all the alternative prison numbers used in various international productions. (Sounds more like the sort of thing James would do. It well may be.)
Valjean's eyes widen as he flips through the photos. Then he laughs.
"My chest hurts just thinking about it."
